The half court 4v4 drill is a wonderful drill for all ages. For younger ages it will give the kids a little more space to be creative and make good basketball decisions. I have watched alot of the youth games and most of the game deteriorates into swarming the ball resulting in a turnover or a wild shot at the basket. Taking the player off and playing 4v4 will allow more space for the boys to actually play rather than just get overwhelmed. For the older boys it will promote creativity on the offensive side and force better positioning and defending on the other side. The kids will love this drill at all ages.

The objective of 4v3 halfcourt with no dribbling is to encourage the player to read the game and move. Making good cuts and finding space on the court is a lost art with much of the game being 1v1 off the dribble. Eliminating the dribble will force players to make good cuts to the basket as well as find open areas on the court to get open shots. The extra player will make it a bit easier for the offensive player to get loose. As the players advance you can eliminate the extra player.

The objective of this drill is to develop a comfortable basketball move that will allow a jump shooter to create space and get away from a defender to get a good jump shot away. It's not difficult to drain that wide open jumper, but the real offensive basketball stud is the player that can create space and score when being covered. It becomes more and more important the older the player gets.
