Drill Objective
The objective of 4v3 halfcourt with no dribbling is to encourage the player to read the game and move. Making good cuts and finding space on the court is a lost art with much of the game being 1v1 off the dribble. Eliminating the dribble will force players to make good cuts to the basket as well as find open areas on the court to get open shots. The extra player will make it a bit easier for the offensive player to get loose. As the players advance you can eliminate the extra player.
Drill Setup
Halfcourt with two teams of three and a neutral player in red.
Drill Instructions
Break into two teams of three with a neutral player in red. The neutral will be with the team that has the ball on offense only. To become the offensive team the defense must make a stop and then check the ball outside the 3 point line. Once the ball is checked out then they can attack with the neutral player. Remember, no dribbling. On a made basket, the defense must inbound the ball and get it outside the 3 point line before attacking the basket.
Drill Variations
Take away the neutral player and make it a straight 3v3. Add players to 4v4 or 5v5.
Drill Coach Points
Focus on good passing and receving basics. Point out good cuts to the players and point out ways to find open space on the court to get jumpshots. Try to encourage cuts to the basket for good shots and not let the players just shoot 20 foot jumpers.
