Many things make a great defensive rebounder.  Technique, determination, anticipation, strength and good hands are just a few of the attributes that set rebounders apart.

Attitude and desire are the most important qualities a great rebounder can have.  You must want the ball and you must be determined that you will get the ball over anyone else around the basket.  Look no further than Dennis Rodman for a great professional example.  Rodman was shorter than most interior players and not the athlete that most of his peers were.  But when it came to rebounds and loose balls nobody had more desire, effort and determination than Dennis Rodman.  It was his ball....everytime!  That's a rebounder.

Positioning and anticipation is also very important to grabbing rebounds.  Most rebounds come off to the backside.  Longer shots produce longer rebounds.  Simple facts that can aid your positioning to get more rebounds.  Get in good rebounding position.  Read the shot.  Anticipate where the rebound will go and then go get it!

Blocking out is a basic of basketball rebounding.  Keep inside position.  Get into your man and do not let him have a clean effort on the ball.  Many times you cannot get the rebound.  In that case you must make sure your man cannot get it either.  If you dont get it, then your man doesnt get it either!
