Many younger players will moan and grona when asked to do basketball footwork or basketball agility drills.  The simple fact is that they just don't understand the benefits of such workouts and the improvements they can provide.  As a coach it is your responsibility to point out the benefits.

Improving basketball agility and footwork provides more benefits to the player than I can list here.  Good footwork and agility will allow the player to have the endurance to be able to play longer and harder than their opponent.  It will allow you to react faster to any situation that might present itself.  Better balance can provide that extra instant that will allow you to track down that loose ball or get into proper defensive position.

For the maturing player good agility and footwork will help avoid and prevent injuries.  There are a number of training aids to help with agility work.  Ladders, cones, bleachers etc.  Bottom line though, the next time your players moan about agility work remind them the importance and edge that it can provide them.
